Description: Welcome to a world where the “American Dream” is discovered to be a dehumanizing nightmare! In this production, simulated violence and intense shadow puppetry contribute to our portrayal of a cultural landscape where it might be impossible to feel that one man, one cog in the machine of society, can really belong anywhere.
Eugene O’Neill’s The Hairy Ape is a beautifully crafted and raw, visceral look at an early 1920s experience of class consciousness, as well as one man’s deeply personal alienation from his society. This masterwork of American expressionism shows that in some respects the 1920s are not as different from the 2020s as we might expect them to be.
THE HAIRY APE contains adult language and situations and is not recommended for anyone under the age of 10.
