A Sum of Parts is a photographic body of work created between 2017 and 2018 that explores the relationship between the human body and architectural form.
Building upon an ongoing visual language developed through ceramic figure sculptures and drawings, the artist introduces architectural imagery directly onto the human body and uses photography to document and transform these constructed figures. The resulting photographs create a dialogue between the organic and the built environment, examining how the body can become both a physical structure and a site for visual exploration.
Through photography, the artist expands their established practice, experimenting with composition, scale, perspective, and the interaction between figure and architectural imagery. Each work becomes a study in how individual elements can be assembled to create something larger—a visual reflection of the ways bodies, structures, and environments intersect.
A Sum of Parts was made possible through an Individual Artist Grant from the Houston Art Alliance, supporting the development of this body of work and the artist's continued exploration of photography as an extension of their studio practice.
