Description: Reception for Swati Sardesai's Swati: City Life, watercolours.

I'm frequently asked, "How long does it take to finish a painting?" The truth is, a painting is never truly finished. It begins as an idea in your mind, evolving through considerations of composition and color. Even as you work on it, the process continues to unfold in your thoughts. You find yourself reflecting on potential changes, contemplating different approaches, sometimes even years down the line. The reality is that a painting is an ongoing journey rather than a destination. However, I've learned to provide a simpler answer: "About 6 to 8 hours!"

Watercolors have been a source of inspiration for me since college, when I pursued a degree in graphic design. I was drawn to the paradox of watercolor — the ability to invest significant effort without making it appear laborious. Though I studied the rules of painting diligently, I also found joy in breaking a few.

I love using black and other dark hues in my artwork. Having grown up in a city characterized by its interplay of light and shadow, I like to explore the vividness and intensity of the city's colors. The intricate details and contrasts within colors truly captivate me. There's a story in every mundane object, every city corner brimming with vibrant narratives.

Rather than focusing solely on natural landscapes, which are a conventional subject for watercolor, I'm more inclined towards capturing the bustling essence of city life.

Cities offer many sensory experiences, from vibrant hues to architectural marvels and diverse transportation options. It's this energy and diversity that fuels my creativity.
