Professor Philip Tussing

 

Congratulations to Professor Phillip Tussing as the inaugural winner of the Chancellor’s Excellence Award for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Professor Tussing’s valued work in serving students from traditionally underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds makes him truly worthy of this honor.

All who decided upon this award were deeply impressed with Professor Tussing’s commitment to alleviating the pain of people of color and those who have suffered from social, cultural and economic discrimination. In particular, we noted his leadership of the Economics Department’s Committee on Racism, Equity, and Inclusion and his extensive research on discriminatory housing policies, inequities in funding for historically Black educational institutions, and the deleterious effects of ongoing racism in the workplace.

Professor Tussing’s values and devotion to this work closely embody HCC’s Diversity and Equity strategic priorities. With this award, we salute his efforts for continuing to open minds and promoting greater student inclusion and success.
