Description: Reception in honor of Luis Sandoval's Exhibition.
Luis was born in 1959 in Caracas, Venezuela, and moved to the United States in 1982 to expand and pursue his passion for art. He attended the intensive English program and Fine Art (Painting) workshops at The University of Texas in Austin, Texas, and continued his study of Fine Art at Houston Community College. His artistic journey from Venezuela to the United States has allowed him to enrich and develop a style that is truly his own composition.
Luis’ work reflects the principles and elements of the abstract. The “not knowing” state of mind is the key to abstraction and is very important to note and respect because it is not an illustration nor a representation. Rather, it is a natural human condition that constantly probes the minds of all. Is it about something? Does it exist? Is it about its own detachment from reality?
Luis’ experience of understanding abstract art is a formal relationship with space, color, time, weight, heaviness, lightness, ugliness, and beauty together with his talent to mask, to stroke, to struggle, to contradict, and to abstract. He creates unique works of art by incorporating mixed media techniques, textures, contrast, unity, movement, balance, and rhythm, dominated by vibrant colors and organic shapes on canvas. He creates a harmonious blend of brushstrokes, drips, patterns and transparent colors. The energetic colors and shapes intermingle and overlap strikingly in each painting. Each of his works is a representation of his energy that is generated from his deep connection with his creativity, reflecting a sense of depth and movement. He does not know in advance what ultimately will be revealed on his canvas because each piece reflects a unique energy, never copying anything that he previously created. He innately knows what works and what does not and connects art with people on a very primal level.
Viewers feel his emotions and connect with him through his use of vibrant colors and techniques that ignite their imagination. It is his hope that through his art the viewers can experience the same sense of wonder and connection to their souls. Luis currently exhibits his art in the Franklin Gallery at John Ross Palmer’s Gallery.
