Betty J. Krohn, Ed.D lives in Godly, Texas, and was Director of AVID for Higher Education from 20014-2020. Currently, she is retired and works part-time for AVID to continue supporting AVID Postsecondary.

Betty earned a B.S. in Mathematics and English at Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri, and an M.A. in Education Administration with a Mid-Management Certification at the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas. In 1992 she earned an Ed. D. in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of North Texas.

Dr. Krohn comes with a variety of educational experiences from graduate-level course instruction in the College of Education at Southwestern Assembly of God University to the middle and high school classroom experience. She has taught English, mathematics, and instructional methods courses. She has also served in various administrative roles supporting and directing programs to address instructional excellence, establish positive learning environments, increase student persistence and completion rates, support at-risk students, and implement of the AVID system. Recognitions include educational administrator of the year at the district, regional, and state levels. She advocates for active student engagement in the learning process, knowing that the empowerment of students in a rigorous, supportive learning environment will create life-long learners with the ability to ask and answer questions, to think critically, and expand on ideas and concepts.

Before joining the AVID team as an AVID Texas Program Manager in 2008, Betty was an AVID program consultant and national staff developer for AVID Center. In February 2011, she joined the AVID for Higher Education Team as a Program and Project Manager and was named Director, AVID for Higher Education in November 2014. As an AVID staff developer, consultant, and program manager, she has presented at a wide variety of AVID events. She is a nationally recognized AVID instructional strategies trainer for both face-to-face and virtual professional learning, AVID demonstration school coach, contributor and editor of the AVID Postsecondary Strategies for Success Instructor Guide, AVID Postsecondary Reading and Writing Guide, and editor of the AHE Academic Reading Strategies and AHE Social Sciences Student Engagement Strategies. Betty is also the author of AVID for Higher Education Socratic Tutorial Support Guide.
