Join Us and Explore the Future of 3D Construction Printing!
Come out to Houston Community College's West Houston Institute on Friday, June 20, 2025 for an engaging half-day event exploring the latest advancements in large-scale 3D construction printing (3DCP). Design PRINT Build brings together professionals from construction, engineering, architecture, and education to explore how digital design and fabrication technologies are innovating how we design for the built environment.
Program Sessions
Hosted by Houston Community College and RIC Technology at the West Houston Institute’s state-of-the-art IDEAStudio Makerspace, the event features:
11:30am-12:30pm Student Design Review
"Hospitable Habitats"–SEED Project Showcase
Students from Houston Community College’s SEED program (Studio Experiences for Emerging Designers) present Hospitable Habitats, modular outdoor spaces designed to foster human-nature connection. Guided by principles of innovation, biophilia, and digital fabrication, these emerging designers explore how 3D construction printing can support human-centered, environmentally conscious design. Join us to hear their ideas, design process, and creative challenges.
11:30am-4:00pm Live Demonstration
3D Construction Printing–RIC Technology
See cutting-edge technology in action as RIC Technology showcases the power of 3D construction printing live at the West Houston Institute. Using their innovative robotic arm system, this demonstration brings digital designs to life–layer by layer. Watch as structures are printed in real time and see first-hand how this innovative technology is reshaping how we think about the future of construction.
12:30pm-2:00pm Roundtable Lunch
Implementing Additive Construction–Challenges & Opportunities in 3DCP Today
This roundtable lunch session brings together industry leaders to share case studies from real-world 3D construction printing (3DCP) projects. Featured projects include the first 3D-printed Starbucks in Brownsville, Texas, a Walmart expansion in Huntsville, Alabama, and Zuri Gardens, an affordable housing development here in Houston. Featured speakers will discuss both the current challenges and emerging opportunities offered by additive construction.
2:30pm-4:00pm Industry Panel
Advancing Additive Construction–Qualification, Training & Implementation
As additive construction gains momentum across the industry, the need for clear standards, reliable qualification methods, and effective workforce training has never been greater. Dr. Babak Zareiyan, Emerging Construction Technology Specialist for ASTM International, will lead this panel with industry leaders to discuss current efforts and future directions in standardizing additive construction practices.
