Become a Student Leader
Each student at HCC helps to support student activity programming by paying $1 per credit hour enrolled each semester. Your fee dollars are put to great use by each Student Life Office to provide leadership opportunities, guest speakers, awareness weeks, fun activities, and so much more.
Starting a Student Organization/Club @ HCC – SW
Recognized student organizations at HCC include all of the interest-specific clubs and organizations, honor societies associated with specific academic programs, and the student government organizations described from becoming a registered organization, so long as the former does not impose restrictions that would conflict with HCC policy. Registered student organizations shall abide by HCC policy and local, state, and federal laws. All registered student organizations will be open to all students regardless of color, race, religion, sex, or national origin.
Student Organization – Application Guidelines
- Make an appointment with the Student Life Coordinator to discuss the proposed student origination.
- Find at least 6 to 8 students who want to join and serve as founding members. (Members of all student organizations must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
- Secure an HCC employee, with his/her supervisor’s permission to serve as the primary advisor. (Advisors may be full-time or part-time employees)
- Write a constitution and have the student life coordinator review it before it is officially submitted. (A sample constitution will be provided as a guide)
- Required documents for Submission: (Can be obtained from the Student Life Office)
- Application for official HCC Student Organization/Club Recognition
- Charter for New Organization, Club, or Association
- Advisor Information/Advisor Contract
- List of Student Officers
- List of Student Members
- Constitution
- Submit the required documents to the Student Life Office. It can take up to six (6) weeks to complete the approval process
- Once the administration approves the petitioning student club/organization as “Official,” the Student Life Office will contact the president and advisor to inform them of the next steps
Before and during the application process, you are permitted to; conduct organization interest meetings and advertise meetings on campus. The Student Life Office is always available to assist you during the process should you have any questions.
It is common practice for the Campus Administration Office to require the signature of the Student Life Coordinator on reservation paperwork. However, it’s not always required.
