Step inside the West Houston Institute, Houston City College's flagship hub for innovation, and discover the future of STEM! In partnership with the Houston Science Festival, this interactive community event invites secondary students, teens, and their families into the IDEAStudio—our 10,000-square-foot digital fabrication makerspace—for an exciting afternoon of hands-on creating and discovery.

Get direct experience using professional-grade equipment alongside HCC's computer science, engineering, and design programs. Explore real-world technology—from 3D printers and laser cutters to robotics and electronics—while learning about the college pathways, degrees, and career opportunities waiting for you at HCC!

What to Expect

  • Celebrate STEM Legends: Receive a complimentary mini tote bag upon arrival and heat-press your favorite STEM Legend design created by our student artist. Plus, collect limited-edition stickers featuring all 8 STEM Legends!
  • Interactive STEM & Tech Exhibits: Explore demonstration tables featuring Digital Information Technology, Engineering, live robotics showcases from the Robo-Sapiens team, and more!
  • Passport Challenge & Custom T-Shirt: Pick up your official WHI Science Week passport at check-in and collect stamps as you explore. Complete your passport to earn and heat-press your custom event t-shirt before you leave!
  • Explore STEM Pathways & Meet the Team: Connect with HCC faculty, staff, and students to ask questions and learn about degree programs, career pathways, and opportunities in STEM.

Parking & Finding WHI

Since West Houston Institute doesn't currently have signage on campus, here's a quick tip for finding us: WHI (Building C) is located closest to Westheimer Road, at the north end of the Alief Hayes Campus. We'd recommend parking in the West Lot, which sits directly in front of the building and offers the closest access point. Once parked, head into the building and look for Room 110 located just off that same parking area.
