Student Programing for Fall 2024
(Augmenting Community College Education to Leverage Experiential Research and Advance Training Equity)
Funding: NIH R-25 Grant (NIAID)
The ACCELERATE Program consists of three major components designed to give HCC Students opportunities in:
- FALL Semesters - Professional Development and Mentoring (HCC WHI, SciLAB)
- SPRING Semesters - Hands-on Molecular Biology Laboratory Skills (HCC WHI, SciLAB)
- SUMMER Semesters - Research Internships with Rice/Texas Medical Center Labs (Rice & TMC)
Science Seminars & Literature Readings for HCC Students this Fall (Nov. 13 – Dec. 10, 2024) will include the following four sessions:
- Nov 13 Professional Development Seminar #1 - “Training Opportunities in Biomedical Research” Speaker: Dr. Kevin McHugh
- Nov 19 Professional Development Seminar #2 - “Careers in Engineering & Medicine” Speaker: Kevin McHugh
- Dec 4 ACCELERATE Journal Club #1: “Developing Pulsatile-Release Microparticles to Enable Single-Injection Vaccination." Speaker: Kevin McHugh (Paper download available at bottom of page)
- Dec 10 ACCELERATE Journal Club #2: “From Drain to Data: The Power of Wastewater Monitoring for Disease Surveillance” Speaker: Lauren Stadler (Paper download available at bottom of page)
