SCILAB Foundations in Biomedical Research Skills
Student Programing for Spring 2025

This SCILAB program has been developed in partnership with Rice University and Houston Community College to provide students with foundational skills needed for entry-level participation in university and industry Biotechnology Labs, including focuses in bioengineering and biomedical reasearch fields. In addition to the workshop experience student have an opportunity to recieve the SCILAB Foundations in Biomedical Research Skills Digital Badge (shown below).
To earn this Digital Badge, students must successfully complete the following workshop requirements in:
- Safety and Lab Etiquette (ex. biological and chemical safety, hazards, PPE use)
- Common Laboratory Techniques (ex. pipetting techniques, pH measurements, microscopy) first two prerequisite to the others
- Two additional advanced workshops to include: Antibody Quantification (ELISA) & Bacterial Strain Identification (Transformation and Verification by DNA analysis)
All four components are offered this Spring.
