Artist Statement:
Why do you take photographs? How do you use the photographs you take with your phone? What do our camera rolls on our phones reveal about who we are? Each has a series of images that are unique to us, unique to our experiences in the world and our interests. How do we filter the thousands of images and videos we consume daily?
For this series of paintings, I selected 101 random photographs from my phone and overlayed them until they became abstract compositions. Some images were reused, recycled, painted over, drawn back in, painted over again, becoming new shapes from overlapping.
There is layering of art history, travel photos, advertising, architecture, screenshots from social media, natural disasters we have lived through, nudes, and landscapes.
Images meld together to become new shapes, new patterns, new visual information.
